Default 2006 GT Pinging

My 2006 GT autopings at a certain point in the RPMs, about 3500-4000 when using 87 octane.

My car is bone stock. At about that same RPM you can also hear the air intake wistling when sucking in air. At first this threw me off becuase I thought the pingingnoise was just the air intake, but after listening to it a few times closely I noticed that it was a pinging sound at the same time of the wistle.I went ahead and put in a full tank of 93 octane andthere is no pinging.You can definetly just hear the airintake sucking in air now. Anyone had this problem? Does anyone elses stock GT make a wistling noise from the air intake?

have you checked the air intake system
for signs of leaks. it almost sounds like
there's an air leak, where the intake tube
meets the throttle body

I never heard a whistle on mine. You may be able to get away with running mid-grade to get rid of the ping. Either that, or try a different gas station's 87...

Hmmnnn I only run Chevron 87 in mine and have NEVER had any problem.....stay away from those cheap gas stations!

Likely a gasket is failing somewhere on your intake,and you are getting a leak..Sounds like a vacuum leak!Get that fixed and your pinging will go away.

USUALLY, if there is a vaccuum leak, the check engine light will come on. Codes for "System too lean Bank1" and "Bank2"

I'd try switching gas brands first. I've had cars that would barely run on certain brands. All gas is the same, but the additives the companies use are not.
