i did my oil last weekend and i have
yet to clean up the area [] maybe
i'll get to it tomorrow....

ORIGINAL: mtsusean

because that's what I put it in.

First oil change. Put a Purolator filter on it and 6 quarts of Mobil 1.

Pressure was good, didn't see any leaks and the mess is cleaned up.

I put 6 in mine and the oil level on the dipstick is wayy above the marked range.

With that being said,

If you put 3 quarts of oil in the engine you will make 2X the power.

-Try doing that next time

my amsoil pamphlet on my fluid capacities states like 6.6 quarts...
including filter. the engine capacity does NOT include filter. (the .6 or .8 quarts)

the oil capacity in the owners manual does in fact account for the filter. The correct amount is six quarts, regardless of what any other manufacturer tells you, or the fact that six quarts doesn't bring the oil up to the top of the hashes, again see my original reply in this thread.

It would certainly help if Ford delineated that in owners manual to specifically say 6 quarts w/filter or 5.3 quarts without filter

Either way, it appeared as if the oil was in the lower 1/3 of the hash marks. I'll check it again this week after putting a couple miles on it to make sure.

I asked about the same question when I changed my oil for the first time:

My info says 6.3 quarts or 6 liters. I put 6 quarts in and still had to add a little.
um, see my note above re: the hashmarks. Six quarts even is the correct amount, regardless of whether you're at the top of the hashes or not.
Except people who have MS or some other handicap and their left foot don't work like it should a$$hole!!!

Autos are the ultimate in gay and are made for people who are not car enthusiasts (drag guys excepted). But the ultimate in gay is a V6 automatic mustang. Nothing could be gayer. Except for people who have MS or some other handicap and their left foot doesn't work so well .................A$$HOLE!!![/blockquote]

6 quarts is NOT CORRECT. The car takes 6.3 quarts. Being "in the hash marks" is not acceptable for the way 90% of us drive these cars. The 4.6 likes to spin bearings when as little as a HALF QUART low.

Dipsticks will vary from car to car. Make sure the level reads FULL on the stick.
