It's my understanding that their sole purpose is toincrease torque and reduce emissions at POT by creating a swirling effecton the airflowwhile being in apartially open position.
However, at WOT they obstruct the airflow, even though they're in a fully open position, and thus reduce hp.
Andas acascianelli pointed out, some ownersnoticed a drop in low end torque by removing them. Butotherssaid that removing them had no impact on thetorque.
