I do not know who said it, but you DO NOT need a tune to gain HP from an intake. The reason the intakes add HP is because the stock air box is very restrictive. YES it would be a smart choice to get a tune, but do you have to, to gain HP? Nope.

But will you gain MORE HP with a tune...

ABSOLUTELY.

But 'neccessary' is subjective, is it not?

Was it 'necessary' for me to want a 10 sec DD...heck no. Does it put a theraputic smile on my face no matter how I'm feeling when I drive it... definitely.

And that, to me, is...priceless.

We all start off just wanting to go 'a little faster'...lol

I rememeber when I first started modding my car and I just wanted a mid 12 sec streetable car. Yeah, you can see how well I stuck to those goals...

Oh trust me, I know how you feel I didn't wanna S/C mine from fear that it would just get me in trouble (I'm a bit younger than most people here so I have to worry about the law more), but now I've already started setting aside money for an engine rebuild How much did that run you?

Since I have had 3 power adders and 2 rebuilt motors trying to find the perfect combination of a low 10 sec DD, I am not the right guy to ask that question...lol

what about on my instructions for my JLT it says do not run w/out a tune may cause damage to the engine. is that true? or are they just trying to sell me the tune also.

HAHA What made/makes you keep wanting to switch.

And onederful, I do not think you need to. Before I decided to get my car blown, I ran a K&N without a tune and could feel the difference.

K&N does not need a tune.
