I was wondering the same thing.....My question is do they make an after market gauge that goes over 140?

DAMN YOU![:@] lol....Does saleen sell that as an aftermarket part?
They don't sell the entire cluster as a part, but they do sell the overlay. The only problem with getting this overlay is finding someone to calibrate your speedometer so it doesnt say your going 100 when you are actually going 60.

Wind resistance these cars arent designed with the aerodynamics to go those speeds not to mention when everytime you doulble your speed you quadruple the wind resistance so the amount of power required to get your car to the 160 and above is ridiculous.

So, if you reallythink aboutit. What's the point of having a Mustangwith500 horsesunder the hood if you can't get past 140.It's almost likesaying that the power can't be used to the full potential due to the fact that the speedometer is limited.I could be wrongbut thereal reason why Iasked this question isbecause Iown a 2004 Maxima and the dash goes to 160 and its not even considered a muscle car yet a Mustang is and it only has 140 on the dash.As matter of fact most cars these dayshave 160 on the dash so why would Ford make their flagship muscle car with only 140 on the dash. Are they really trying to tell us that the 05+ mustangsdon't perform well atextraordinary high speeds.Don't get me wrong I love Mustangs but the new Z06 vettes have 505 horses with 200+ on the dash which should compare to the Ford GT500 or the Ford GT for that matter. From what i've seenmost cars that have 500+ horses from the dealer has a speedometer of atleast 180+.

Probably because the car has been programmed from the factory to limit the top speed to 149 so there was no need to have a speedo that went higher.

Why, when they have the newHondaAccords that have 160 on the dash and they're considered family sedans. The 94-98 Stangshad 150 on the dash and the99-04 Stangshad 160 on the dash so why did they give the new Stangs more horses yet they limited the dash to 140.It just seems kind of backwards. It just make the carseemless powerfulwhen the dash reads 140 especially comingfrom a muscle or sports car.I know 140 is still a sufficient amount of speed and most people never getto use itbut it's that fact that Mustangsare considered muscle cars and if family sedanscan outrun amuscle cars these days we need to think about what we really call muscle cars especially since the definition of a muscle car is speed and power.I love mustangs and always will however that question will always linger in my mind until I get a sufficient answer.

What I don't understand is that my 300hp Mustang speedo goes to 145 ish, and my girlfriend's 1.8L Beetle's goes to 140 or 145. I doubt that car would see more than 110 or so.

You see!!!That's what i'm talking about. These little pint sized bettles are hitting 140-145 and they'reNOOOOOO WHEEEEERRRREEEEEE nearmuscle cars.Back in theday140 mph was consideredpowerful for a muscle car but now ordinary cars are doing those numbers.I knoware cars don't compare to vettes but when you have a 1998 vette with 345hp that reads200mph on the dash and then you have a 05 with 300hp that only reads 140 coming from a muscle car I tend to question why did Ford chose to limited the car to 140.Maybe they were trying tomake a statement by trying to keep the mph equal to the olderBoss stangsfrom 60's due to the fact that the 05is just a re-make of the older stangs.I don't knowI just wish I had the answer to my question.

I've never seen that but it would be nice if there was. That's the reason why I bought a 94 Impala rather than a 96 was because of the digital speedo.
