Default Pinging

Ok guys, I know there are a bunch of post out there talking about pinging but most don't know if it is detonation or not and I have not seen any solutions. Well I’m sure mine is detonation. It's a 2005 GT that I boughtnew. I had put an Airaid CAI on it but that is the only mod. I have always run Exxon 87 gas and never had a problem. Well about a month ago I thought I heard some pinging under a hard acceleration. I thought it might be the CAI since I am running a stock tune so I put my stock air box back on. The pinging is worse with the stock air box. I was just about to order a tuner but figured that I had better figure this out first. I thought I would try a tank of 89 from different gas station. Could this be a sparkplug issue? The car has 32000 miles on it now. Any help you guys could give would be a great help.

First, try different brands of gasoline. The last tankful or 2 may have been some bad stuff.
If the pinging still happens, then some carbon may have built up inside the engine's combustion chambers. Duringyour next fill up, dumpa can of Seafoam($7) into the gas tank before pumping.Doing that solveda pinging problem on my carafter approx.200 miles of driving.

Good advice. I would personally drain all the gas out and refill with some better stuff but that's just me.

My .02
I used to use Exxon and BP and had pinging as well for about the first ~10 to 12 months I had the car.
Swapped spark plugs at 15k and the old plugs were quite fouled.
Since then, I'll go as far out of my way as necessary to hit a Shell station and I've had no problems since.
