Pinging?
Ressurecting a thread. Until this issue is resolved I'm not going to be able to sleep at night! 28,000 miles, and it's been happening for atleast 10,000 miles. Between 2500-3100 I get an occassional "thin metallic rattle" Sometimes at 2500, then goes away. Sometimes at 2750 and then goes away, and sometimes at 3100 and goes away. Sometimes a combination of the three. Cold, Hot, doesn't matter. 1-5 gears, doesn't matter.
The dealer claims it is Pinging, Brenspeed sent me a detuned tune for less timing than stock, and still got the sound. Car has been running on Synthetic fluid, Mobile 1, then Royal Purple, and then Motorcraft since 8,000 miles. Always running 93 octane, even before the CAI.
Took it to shop here in town and the guy road in the car with me, and he thinks it's the Control Motion Valves, and that they are loose or something. OR the problem lies in the exhaust some place. I've had O/R H, Resonators, SLP Loudmouths, Original mufflers obviously, and now 40 series Flowmasters, and it's happened with each exhaust piece. (Harder to hear with SLP Loudmouths + O/R H though)
Tomorrow is my day off, so I'm going to try another Ford dealer for an opinion. I don't have my stock airbox but I think I'm going to press the issue that I don't want them to pass the buck just because of my modifications. See where that goes. But my question is, does anyone think it could be the Control Motion Valves, because they might open during that RPM and if they are loose they could vibrate which will make that thin tin like sound?
Thanks.

Ive had pinging in my car with the tuner and intake at high rpms. I was sick of it so I put it back to stock, drove it around until I saved for a supercharger. Now lots of power and no pinging cause im runnin rich!
I posted during that thread, and I've asked my dealer about that. They said it's not an issue with my car. More or less they are useless... I wish they would send me a survey!
