Changing from Mobil 1 to Amsoil

RE: Changing from Mobil 1 to Amsoil
Amsoil gave all dealers a copy of why. I cant find it at the moment, and its not listed on the website. Just from what I can somewhat remember
1. API certification costs a bunch of $$
2. Oils need to be recertified anytime there is a change in formulation.
3. Oils need to be recertified everytime certain suppliers are are changed.
4. API certification ismerely a "stamp" to say it meets minimum criteria.
5. Amsoil DOES make an API oil. It is their XL-7500 series.
There are more reason why, and I truly wish I could repeat everything they said, because some people are such a stickler on this. I just cant remember it all. Not having that starburst on the labeling gives them the flexibilty to tailor make each type of oil, and change them as they need to, to provide the best product possible. Providing the best product is the goal they have had since 1972. Lets face it, if the stuff was no good, it certainly wouldnt still be around after 36 years.

So how do I explain 189K on my Sport Trac using Pennzoil 5W30 at 3-5K change intervals? Shouldn't I be just fine doing the same in my S197?

Although I exclusively use synthetics in my vehicles, I have FULL CONFIDENCE in dino oil. I've had more than 3 vehicles that I put over 200,000 miles on using dino at 3-4k mile oil change frequency. My ONLY reason for using synthetics is the extended drain interval, NO OTHER. Synthetics may be proven to have superior lubricating and protective capabilities, but none that would be noticed if you used dino oil instead and maintained it properly, but that's just MY opinion.

Tha'ts good to hear. I like using regular (dino is a new term for me!) because it is less expensive, but mostly because I like to changemy oiloften. I've always believed that fresh oil is important and it never hurts to change it too much.
