to do valve springs you need to pull the heads. Pulling the heads is easiest out of the car. Choices to do this job:

1) remove hood and motor mounts jack up the engine from beneath - remove heads in car
2) remove hood and remove engine from top with cherry picker
3) drop the engine and k frame from the bottom

Brent isn't doing anything fishy. It is probably the easiest way to get the motor out of the car.

maybe not. It is tight to work in there. If you are trying to bolt down some heads using a torque pattern that maybe hard to accomplish in the car.
Remove a few big bolts and the whole K member drops out the bottom and now you have all the room to work.

I think they do the no spring required cams in the car though. They just have to remove the radiator and stuff to gain room topull them out the front of the heads.

well... I would probably stick with stage 3's only because I am going for the gains and not conservativity...

so I guess technically a front alignment is required in a way...

That is the way I have seen/done 90% of the time on these cars.

Sure, less work would be the best solution.
When I did a cam on any pushrod motors back in the Stone Age, I would not need to pull the heads. You couldjust use an air adapter to hold the valves up one cylinder (compressed air in spark plug hole) at a time - so you could replace the springs with the heads on the car.
I would think that might be possible on these cars too but I have not heard if it can be done.

+1 and that was back when the smallest motors were 350ci. My buddys 455 in his 442 looks like a bike in a hanger under the hood.
