Default 87 Octane Tune v. 91 Octane Tune

Just wondering with the price of gas and all, if any one has run with both of these tunes?

I am currently running a 91 octane tune and am putting 308 rhp/318rtq.

Any idea how the 87 tune may affect my performance?

Is the 87 octane bad (obviously its not as good) for the engine or does it just slight performance a bit?

Help, any and all info appreciated.

Advise on whether it is worth the gas savings to run 87 v. 91.

THANKS MF'ers

I don't know what you'd dino at by dropping to the 87 octane tune but my 89 vs 93 octane tunes aren't all that "seat-of-the-pants" different. I feel my 93 tune pulls harder above 3-4k RPM but my 89 tune feels more peppy in the lower range.

As far as your question about 87 octane being "bad", I'm not sure what you mean.My 87 octane custom tune with 87 octane fuel is heads better that the stock 87 tune. How could 87 octane be bad with an 87 tune? Our cars are designed, stock, for 87. I'm hoping you don't mean running 87 octane with a 91 tune. THAT WOULD be bad...

it will decrease performance a bit, probably not much, but a bit.

honestly if you calculate it all out, you only save a couple of dollars each fill up. i switched back to my 87 for one tank and said screw it and went back up to 93.

Correct. The difference where I live between 87 and 93 octane is 20 cents. Even if you use 20 gallons a week that's only $4. I don't understand how people on the foorum will spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on all sorts of mods and then whine about what might amount to $200/year. And you bought a performance car WHY???

Let's see, $4/week:
[ul][*]drink water instead of soda[*]brew your own coffee and stay out of Starbucks[*]pack your lunch[*]quit smoking[*]use coupons[*]walk or ride a bike more[*]get your spouse or g/fto turn a few tricks (well, I thought it was a good idea...)[/ul]
I'd rather spendthose couple $$'sand enjoy the Stang for the reason I bought it...

yeah, i fill up once every 2 weeks. so it costs me an extra $2 a week to get a noticeable difference out of the car. also, keep in mind, you'll get slightly better gas mileage with the higher tune so it probably evens out when it's all said and done. or just turn the thermostat in your house up 1 degree for a couple days or do anything Nuke suggested. skip 1 trip to mcdonalds and buy a tombstone pizza to put in the oven, it'll taste better and you'll save $5
