never used a torque wrench for lug nuts no problems yet. I just put all the lug nuts then proceed to tighten a bit on a across pattern then really torque them down with the same across pattern.

If Andrew is not using a torque wrench we should all take is asa sure sign that using a torque wrench is mandatory.

Do you actually have to torque them to 100lb? I just tighten them until they are tight enough!

Hell I didn't even use a torque wrench to torque down the manifolds bolts after my cmdps install.

I should be fine, right?
Hi rshamekh,

Back in the olden days of stamped steel wheels itdid not matter a lot as the steel all generally expanded at the same ratedrum brakes and all. Modern cars with alloy wheels and steel brakes are designedto haveconsistent torque all around to preventdistortion of the rotors and wheel hubs and to promote brake cooling. So as long as you are parked in your garage you will be fine. But when your wheels fall off or you start to get brake vibrations or even if you get lucky andnot torquing the wheel lugs properly doesn'tcause you any obvious problems you will bemuch better off in the long run if you hand torque your alloy wheels toFord specs.

HTH!

The guys at a local tire shop (big name tire shop) will mount the tire, finger tighten the lug nuts, set their torque wrench and then proceed to crank the **** out of 'em. Like putting their body weight into it LOL. WTF?![8D]

[sm=owned.gif]<--- Me the next timeI try to take my tires off. Time to get a breaker bar, I guess.

I have used a Q wrench on lugs with all my cars & have never busted a stud. It may be overkill to some but thats what I do.

lol I see that you are still bitten by the fact that every argument you have ever had with me you have lost. Still recommending stage 4 cams for fi?, or are you still stating a big brake kit does not have more brake tq than a small diameter brake kit? Or best yet are you still recomending to shift at 7.2k or 6.9k I dont remember correctly because you could stay in gear longer and put more power to the ground lols

For the record, I did the same thing as you did before I had a torque wrench (on past cars). Since I bought one a few years ago, I torque them properly now.
