Default RE: AUTO TO 5 SPD

ORIGINAL: howarmat

it might be worth it but from the pics you are going to be dumping a ton into the car anyway to get it up and running....normally its ~5K to do the swap not including what money you get back for old parts. Most times when people ask this question, they can easily trade teh car in for a new or used manual for under a 5k difference so that is why it makes much more sense.

If you do the swap then the car is severely hindered when it comes to diagnosing problems sometimes and in resale. I would never buy an automobile that has gone through the surgery. Unless it was a completely built car cause then I know the purpose and workmanship behind it better.

If you are planning to put 10-15k into the car you just bought then you might be able to pull it off, but it depends on what is useable out of your wrecked car. The repairs add up fast, you need new wheels and tires.......they is 2k right there for alot of people on here depending on tastes. New front end, if you go aftermarket hood and bumper thats another 2K probably and then there is the mechanical costs and new engine perhaps.

Good luck with either route you choose but the shop doing it better know what they are getting into, the PCM needs switched amongst about 100 other things.
On that note I am leaving it a auto.As far as repairs go I plan on being into the car for 10,000 including the price of the car.
Motor and tran are fine.I found a set of takeoffs for $500. hood $150 Saleen rear cover $300 even though I dont need it.Bumper and grill $220. And about $2,200 in dealer parts. As far as headlight what do you guys think about the ones they sell on ebay.
