Default Tune for BBK CAI

I installed this about a week ago with no problems.

I got this one because it advertised no tune needed. I got a CEL this morning and think this
is probably the cause of the light.

My car is a stock AUTO with just this and GTA axle backs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Yes, it is more than likely the new CAI caused the cel. Even though it is advertised as no tune required, over the past year I've seen 4 or 5 posts exactly like yours. So, apparently this CAI is right on the edge of needing a tune. My recommendation would be to get a Tuner and some Tunes.

Regards the cel, like I said, its probably due to the new CAI. However, without knowing the cel number you cant be positive and thus its possible there is some other issue. So....be cautious. Personally Id remove the CAI and return to stock until I had a Tuner and Tunes.

Ihave beenrunning the BBK CAI since early May. Initially I had a SuperChips FlashPaq tune which worked great; however, I have the FRPP Hot Rod cams on order so removed the tune about 3 weeks ago waiting on Doug's tune for the new cams from BamaChips. Running the CAI without a tune for the past 3 weeks has not been an issue... at least not yet. I can definitely tell a difference in performance when I went back to the stock tune.

Thanks for the replies, I am running 87 now.

I will try 89.

If I disconnect the neg bat term will it reset the CEL?

I am alittle leary about getting a tune, my mods are mostly for looks and sound.
Have read some people's cars won't start after installing a tune?

If I do get a tune is BAMA the best for an AUTO?

I would like to know about the tune too since I also have an auto 2006 GT with a BBK CAI but I've only have mine on for a couple of days now with no problems at all.

I concur that the CEL is almost surely due to the CAI. I often wonder why people get a stand-alone CAI (~3-5 RWHP) and not the CAI & tune combo (~15-25 RWHP) since the later has such a bang-for-the-buck.

Yes you can reset the CEL by disconnecting the battery once you have filled with higher octane.

Regards worries about aftermarket tunes: many, many members of these forums have them without issues. Unfortunately you have likely seen posts from the few who do and it leads you to conclude that its a common problem...its not. My advice: buy from a reputable source (brenspeed, bama, vmp, etc), follow the instructions precisely, after tuning dont do further engine mods without researching if the tune needs an update for the new mods, know your strategy code (something akin to your ECUs software version, the tuner will show you it) and don't let a dealer reflash your ECU (possibly changing your strategy code or causing other issues).

The word on the street is Brenspeed for manual, Bama for Auto. Don't know where that notion originally came from or if there is any data to support it but it seems to get repeated every time the question is asked.
