Default Engine cuts out at full throttle..

Hi all. This is my second mustang (first was a 1996 GT). My current one is a 2005 Mustang GT 5 speed with 12k miles. I bought it from the original owner at 6k. There is a full factory warranty until 75k through ford.

Ok I am done with the quick intro.

My question:

Under full throttle the engine cuts like its bogged out but then will rev back up. I dont think it is a fuel issue and it feels like its more electrical. It only happens when I slam the pedal. If I ease into it, then apply full throttle its fine.

Anyone know anything about this? I would take it to the dealer but figured I would try this route first.

Thanks in advance

Kenny

is it after a long cruise?

try turning the tcs off. you might be spinning the tires, and that's exactly what happens when the tcs kicks in.

Are you redlining the car before shifting? Our revlimiters shutt he engine off completely (Bog) unlike the older stangs taht would allow you literally "bounce" off the revlimiter but cutting cylinders.

Yes. I drive a lot of highway and it does it on the highway and off. 5th to 3rd on the highway is where it happens a lot and first gear roll ons at about 15 - 20 mph.

At first I thoughts that what it is. (By the way, I was super disapointed when I saw that button on the dash ). But it def. is not spinning the tires. I verified by spinning out on wet pavement and felt the way they TCS kicks in.

Its normally at wide open throttle around 2.5 - 3k

Is it the stock tune? It could just be throttle lag caused by the Drive By Wire throttle control and the conservative Ford factory tune.

If it was the fuel pump problem, I don't think it would present quite like your explaining. At least when my 06 had that problem, the car would not just lag, but fall flat on it's face for a split second, then take off. It sounds to me like you're experiencing more of a lag than a fuel shortage problem.

I'm sure I'm the 234564 person to mention it, but...I just put the C&L street CAI and Bama tune on (currently only the 87 octane) this Sunday, and the throttle response is 10x better than the factory tune. Prior to retuning, I could literally put my foot to the floor and be almost all the way back up before the engine even moved at idle. Those days are over...

That is exactly what it is. So you think I should go ahead and get that tune? Just getting back into the Mustang market, where is a good place to buy my parts?

www.ninosport.com, www.americanmuscle.com, and www.steeda.com are all good places to order stuff from; i've ordered from them and hadn't had any problems. it does sound like a cai/tune will 'cure your ailment'; that's gonna be my next mod

Any chance the previous owner kicked the rev limiter down from the factory default of 6250 RPM? If not, then my money is on the fuel pump TSB.
