Default Help with Future Mods! 3500 TCI Stall/3.73 Gears

Hey Guys,

I've had my Borla exhaust installed about only a month and i'm already thinking about my next move. At first i was set on cams but after careful consideration i've decided to work on my drivetrain a bit.

TCI has the 3000 and 3500 stall, there's a huge difference in pricetag but is there also a huge dif in performance? Some guys told me not to buy it because it will damage my gearbox etc, is there any truth in that? I'm also set on 3.73 gears however there are a few options on the brenspeed site however they all state the same..
http://www.brenspeed.com/05-08-musta...ain-gears.html

Which one should i go for? Everything will be done by my mechanic (no tuning shops or dealers over here), so i'm getting the "MASTER GEAR INSTALATION SHIM & BEARING KIT FORD 8.8 MOTIVE" as well. Do i need to worry about the stall and gears being to difficult for him to do since this is his first stang he's worked on?

I also take it i will have to retune for these 2 parts...

I have heard great thinga about the 3000 stall. That it is great for daily driven stangs, but at the track it's a whole different animal. The gears aren't going to hurt at the least bit with the converter. It's a great step up. I know guys that are running in the low 10's with the stock tranny with converters and gears and no problems!

And just for background I have experience as I did these mods to my 99 stand which was an auto.

First DO NOT GET MOTIVE GEARS!!!! They are garbage. You want FRPP gears. I believe with the A suffix but someone else can get you that info. Motive did make FRPP gears for a while and they have a M suffix in the part number. Motive gears give you the highest possiblity of whine even when installed correctly. Any gear will whine if installed incorrectly FYI.

Also make sure you get the best guy in town to install your gears because it is a huge headache if they arent. Ask around the forum.

The second it about the stall. For a street car I would not recommend anything over a 3k stall. Also the stall you get should be defined by your cars powerband. So I would either:

A. Choose now all the engine performance mods you want know and contact a good Trans guy (like Lentech or similar) and ask what stall you should get.

or

B. Hold off on the stall till you know.

The reason being lets you want to go FI. If you get a centri blower you will want a higher stall to get you in your powerband. If you want a TS blower you can probably stick with a stock converter since you will have so much torque down low etc.

Final suggestion is "Dont Fear the Gear" IMO 4.10's are the perfect perf gear.

Basically just make sure you really research and know what you are getting into first as you dont want to be removing these mods down the road because they wont work with the combo you want.

Good Luck.

How bout ported heads, Cams, forced induction, something. Your 20"s are worse than stock and a full blown exhaust minus cats is only good for a "Max" of 15 HP. If you wanna move faster you need some serious power adders. Ever heard the saying.....All show no go? Think about it!

How bout you spring for a quality converter instead of that TCI stuff?
There are several makers out there. I can name four off the top of my head.
The TCI is basically a OEM that is tweaked with a different stator for a slightly higher stall. It still uses the wierd OEM ring adapter. Do some searching and you will find that for a little more money you can get a really nice locking converter or even a triple-disc.
