TCI Ratchet Shifter Install
#81
Actually I really like the height of the shifter now that I have had it installed for more than a year and don't plan to cut mine down anymore.
Here's where I cut the toggle shaft...
You can see it changed the height relationship of the two shafts.

EDIT:
I just remembered! When you change the height of the shaft the little screw in the back doesn't line up with the hole anymore. The quck and efficient cure is to drill and tap that hole in the toggle for a set screw. I used a 1/4 x 16 x 1/4, 3/16 length would be better. It willl "pinch" the toggle securely to the shaft anywhere. You can get the drill & tap and set screws at Lowes among other places.

I have a 2006 v6 mustang. my shifter still works but the cover around it pops up every so often. if i take the console apart i can fix it but seems like it is happening more and more frequent. I am not a car guy but can do some stuff. to me it seems like the Black sliding part is jumping the track and getting stuck thus not allowing me to put it in park. I use to just stuff it back in the track and it would work for a bit but after it happens like 1 time a week i just cut it off. the problem is still happening though. and since i love my mustang and dont want to look trashy i think i am just going to replace the whole shifter. Does anyone know where i can buy a factory shifter? seems like the TCI shifter is only one out there. and if I took it to the Ford place how much do you think they would charge me?

First off, I'm not trying to ba a -ick. As a stick shift driver, I understand why people replace the mediocre factory shifter with a 5 or 6 speed tranny. I don't understand what you get by replacing the shifter with an automatic. Exactly what do you gain?. Like I said, I'm not trying to be a smart ***, I am just curious.

I don't run one, but it is basically so you can shift like a stick without the danger of hitting the wrong gear.
And there is the aesthetic component as well. The stock auto shifters are all plastic, and not that pretty.
