Good find aclass... I will check mine tomorrow but doubt I have issues yet as the car is driven rarely and only when the weather is sunny....just broke 4000 miles on the car and maybe 1500 of that was with the S/C.... I still need to get my catch can installed

So check list before going out for cruise or shows etc...
1. engine oil level
2. S/C oil level (everyone knows half full on this right?-just checking)
3. check all hoses for leaks
4. I have a habit of looking for belt dust (excessive at least) as this can be a sign of a bending tensioner (still stock for now).

Anything else?
I do know the snout seal would be very easy to replace and someone such as myself would be able to do it and I put my understanding of mechanics at about 6 or 7 but my application of it at about 2-3 on a scale of 1-10. Granted the more factual info I read and the more mods I do myself to the car is slowly increasing over time thanks to many members on the forum like you guys and moose and simon1 and CrazyAL (when he was on here frequently) and Stkjock, and howarmat, and jsawyer so many others (some on frequently and others not so much anymore)

This is a common problem for the Whipple S/C. This does not happen to all of the units. I do know that they did take some steps to fix this problem. From the looks of the pics its not as bad as others given the fact that you caught it early on. Others with similar kits have noticed an oil film on the underside of the hood just above the snout. From what I've read whipple will stand behind their products.

Hammeron If your leak is coming from where i think. I believe my installer used an anneurobic sealer red/black in that area between the mating surfaces of the snout and main blower case. No gasket. Whipple just replaced my snout but my leak was up towards the pulley.Which caused the oil spray on my hood liner.

yeah daryl06 i think you are right.
on this pic the blue line is the seal that
i think is the source of our (very minor) leak.

i really have to clean the whole area up and
watch closely over the next few weeks/months,
to confirm it.

When I told whipple about the snout leak from my gen 1 blower they told me to give them a deposit of 375 US an they would send me a snout in the mail. 3 days after giving them my credit card # I had a replacement snout in my greedy little hands...And I live in BC Canada. My leak isn't the same as yours but have the same repair scheme. They send a gasket that fits between the blower case and intake. You have to lift off the case to get the snout bolts out and sometime this can rip the blower/intake gasket. They send oil, gasket, instructions and in my case a new upgraded snout. Mine didn't have a snap ring for the pulley seal in the gen 1 so they sent me a new upgraded one. When you guys get the snout off you will get a chance to check out the coupler for wear, tear, melting or deforming. I have heard that the holes can become ovaled. This repair was 2 hours and the men and women at Whipple were gracious and polite. My deposit took longer getting back to me than I would have liked but that is red tape for you. Getting the snout apart from the case was time consuming so when reinstalling the anneurobic sealant you might want to use the red.Red is a little easier to take off on your next maintanance.

Glad they took care of you and this seems to be a problem specific to the gen 1 S/C's....sucks because I have one but if it leaks I will do the same as you mentioned Daryl06...thanks for posting!

Oh no leak yet but I will give it time and when the motor gets pulled next year and if there is still no leak I will just put a new gasket in there anyway and be done with it.... I want to run 20+ psi eventually so.......should do this while the motor is out (hopefully it wont happen)

There have been others with leaking snouts. I believe the recommend fix was High temp rtv sealant. I don't think there is a gasket there.

Mine is not leaking, yet.

I have a Gen II GT500.
I'm encouraged by Darl06 post. I sent an email to Whipple last night so hopefully I'll get a reply soon.

I was working a bit under the hood yesterday and I was in that area and did not see anything out of the ordinary so I would say mine isnt having an issue. I have about 12k miles with the blower on and the car is my DD.

I wonder if this affected people more who dont drive as much as my seals stay wet from use? I dont know. I will keep an eye out.

At first I wondered if this might be something that happens to people who dont have a catch can? If your blower isnt loosing any oil, the oil might be coming from somewhere else. IE the blow-by coating the rotors/ SC internals and then finding its way out under pressure?

Might be talking out of my @ss, but it was the first thing to jump to mind. I take a fair bit of oil out of my catch can every couple of months.
