Default S & B Cold Air Intake

Hey, got a question...bought an S & B CAI for my 09 GT, now I have an "uneven" torque curve between probably 3200-5000 RPM's. I have checked all connections and retightened them without change. I can put the OEM intake back on and the engine runs smooth as silk through the entire torque band.....I did not (and wasn't supposed to have to) get a tune with it. Thanks for any help or info on this one !!!

what does an uneven torque curve mean? got the graph?
even though it says no tune required, a tune will make it better.
i installed one of those no tune required CAI on my dad's GT and still got a CEL.

It has not been on a dyno, it was a road test. It was just one of those "feelings", hard to describe but if you were in it, you could tell the difference between the CAI and OEM, OEM being WAY smoother without the pauses. Another descriptiion would be multiple "micro-second" flat spots or pauses in the acceleration, hope that helps in the description.

Those so called "no tune needed" CAI for the S197 cars are typically not accurate in their description. While they manage to be installed on the car without a tune they will NOT run as smooth as with a tune designed to take advantage of the new intake. Our cars have the Electronic throttle so even small minor changes created when introducing a air intake can cause the car to not "feel" right. Some might even require premium fuel to run without a tune. Read the fine print.

I would either contact who you got it from and find out about getting a tuner with a tune for that intake or return it and contact BAMAChips or BrenSpeed for one of their tuner + CAI packs.

You'll need a tuner anyway to do any mods to the car (gears, headers, etc)

Here's an article for a S&B on a S197 http://www.driveonline.com/content/view/88/84/ seems to hold up that it will install but no Dyno's to see what the A/F is doing. A/F would be what causes the feeling you seem to be getting "Flat Spots"

Plus they mention the gain in adding a tune to the car with the same S&B.

S&B CAI needs a tune. Put my 09 Gt on the dynojet with Diablo and at WOT I was Scary lean (but no CEL unbelievably) had to add 35% more fuel and then pulled 286.5 RWHP and 312.4 RWT
