Default Manual v. Auto

I am new to this site and I have never driven a small car before. I am in the process of selling my truck cause I cant afford to pay for the gas any more (she is on a 6" lift on 35" haha) and I really want to get a mustang after I sell my truck. I am going to get the new body style, hopefully a 07 or 08 depending on how much I get for my truck, but I dont know whether to get a manual or automatic tranny. I have heard mixed reviews from "Oh your gonna get tired of driving stick" to "Manual is the only way to go". What do yall think?

Welcome, and it is personal preference, I have an auto (beggers cant be choosers) but I would prefer a 5-speed. If it is just a DD and you aren't planning on having any fun with it, go auto, but if you enjoy the experience of driving, get a 5 speed. Just my .02.

I constantly heard people say I would get tired of a manual. BUT after having one for so long I would never consider anything else in a car. It makes the car a blast to drive.

There shouldn't even be automatic Mustangs, unless you are putting some ungodly numbers down. Get the manual, you will learn to love it!

The manual is nice for when you feel like playing around on the street since you can really control your powerband.

The more I want to go fast at the drag strip though, the more I want an auto. Aftermarket clutches for these cars are a PITA to get right, I get tired of the inconsistency of missing shifts and what not.

Get a manual - unless you want to go fast. Then get an automatic.

Agreed, auto is way more consistent.

I drove manual for 18 years. I have an auto 08, I can still put it in its powerband when needed. I can eat, talk on the cell, and shave all at once with the auto (disclaimer, I would never eat or shave in my car, cellular conversations are with handsfree device only)
