If mine blew the car would sit for a year. I couldn't afford to spend 6+ thousand on a new engine right away.

I wouldn't want to spend that money at all, but I could if I had to, and that was an important thing to know before I bought any FI.
A BIG +1 to this post.

One of the most useful things someone posted to me on my old car's forum went something like this(Note, I had been inquiring about a turbo, choices to make involving voiding the warranty):

If you are worried about voiding the warranty, you have no business buying a turbo. Rather than spending $3000+ on a turbo, put that money aside for an engine rebuild, and begin saving for the turbo kit.

Which might be ok provided you have another car to get you to work and to the store. I am pretty sure there are many people on here in a situation that if they actually blew a motor, that they'd not only have no transportation, but have no way to readily fix the car either.

If mine blew, I'd go ahead and have it rebuilt, but yeah it would probably sit for a couple months while I figured out exactly what I wanted. Its a weekend toy however, and not my daily driver. I leave the DDs stock.

I'm still using the rich whipple/frpp canned tune. I've yet to find an engine failure with their tune. I think my rings will let go before my rods. The whipple tune is 11:1 and mine dips to 10.8:1 up top. If you want to make all the power possible out of your boost, well you have to be willing to walk on the wild side.

If I have to get a new engine, I'll probably let Chase buy me one. I can't see spending my own cash in these uncertain times, lol! Lucky for me I have a lot of available credit and zero credit card debt. I would not recommend financing a blower, but if you need a new engine, well you need it. I always have my bike to ride while i'm waiting for my new short block from livernois.

I have had my HO Whipple with FRPP tune for 5 months now and have put 12K miles on it. This is my DD, so I can't say that I pull hard all the time, but I make a point to feel the RWHP once a day at least. The engine has been quite smooth and reliable so far, but I think clutch and tranny might not last the distance.

I'll cross that bridge when I have to.

What FI system are you running? Whipple HO Intercooled

What boost level? 10 PSI pulley peaking at 11 PSI

How many miles have you been boosted? 3,000 (give or take)

How long have you been boosted? 2 years (give or take)

Average driving style? Fairly conservative.

Any Racing? Drag strip (50+ passes)

Canned or Custom tune? Canned FRPP tune on the street, custom SCT dyno tune at the track.

If you have popped your engine I would also like to hear about it. ...not yet.
