Well, I got my Tillman SCT tuner today, and I installed the 93 Road Race tune. It is awesome -- a smooth, yet responsive power curve. I thought I had an extra 100 hp.

Unfortunately, it didn't help the 'open loop' bucking at 3000 RPM. Chris at Tillman did volunteer to look a the data, though, once I record the event on my tuner. Don't think this is an issue of tuning the problem out, but maybe he can come up with suggestions after looking at the data . . .

I have a dead spot just under 3 grand but only if I midly accelerate. It does it in 1st,and 2nd. If I get on it it doesn't miss(?)at all.I thought I had read about it somewhere this being normal.

The flat spot is normal -- that's when the IRMC plates open.

However, the "bucking" I get is not normal. But, again, it only happens when the car is in open loop, i.e. in the first 15-45 seconds after cold start-up.

Chris at Tillman tells me I have to use a laptop to data log the event, as the tuner itself does not record enough perimeters. Since I only have a desktop, I'm getting very frustrated.

I think my next move may be to pay my local speed shop to diagnose the problem . . .

I think I would just let the car warm up a bit before driving it and quit worrying about it. You are driving yourself crazy over a what seems like a small issue. I don't think i have ever started my car cold and taken off driving within 30 seconds. Don't get pissed at me this is just my opinion. Life is just too short to sweat the small stuff.

That's only mildly offensive, so I'm not pissed

I just think I shouldn't have to let a $30k car with 1800 miles warm up in order to keep my head from hitting the steering wheel at 3000 rpm.

As above. Dead cold start: Start the car, then spend a few seconds fastening your seat belt, checking your mirrors, and gauges. Let the oil circulate to all parts of the engine. Drive off after 30 + seconds at low RPMs for a few minutes, then gradually increase the revs as the engine warms up. The 4.10s probably make a small problem more noticable.

Cheers.

Hell you think paying 30k is bad and have to wait to warm up, think about this, now I don't know thie exact wording but I thought I read somewhere the 50k shelby, you have to drive 3 or 5 mins before supercharge will kick in, something like that......As a side note at the track between runs you'll see guys open their hoods to cool down, a mustang w/o a supercharger should leave shut, supercharged open it, they build up heat and should be allowed to cool.
