Default 5w/20w or 5w/50w

I get oil changes at the local dealership. I always have, they like the car and me and the service manager always end up chatting, it's good to keep them on-side IMHO.

Anyway, I always have the Ford Synthetic 5/20 oil but this time there was a new guy there and he said to try the synthetic 5w/50w brew which is the Ford recommended oil for the GT500 5.4.

I went with his recommendations but figured I'd ask the question here before I run her hard.

The car is essentially driven very softly on the road but of course I run it on the road course a few times a year, that's where I want protection...

opinions?

Unless you have a GT 500 stick with the 5-20 maybe 5-30 I would never run 5-50 in a stock 4.6.

+1 on 5W20 or 5W30 for a standard GT. The blower dudes can run 5W50.

Hmm, I don't really see anything to make me go change it out or make a fuss at the dealership. WHY is 5/50 no good for my motor?
I do have a blower but don't see why that should make any difference.

OK, I got the skinny.

5/50 is no good because the lifters on the 4.6 are really picky about oil types, 5/50 won't allow the lifters to drain properly and can pump up.

Now we know, and now my dealership is going to get a new *******.

Busted them..
Loads of apologies etc etc etc but I wonder if it'd be the same level of groveling if I'd caught a valve ???
