What's the deal with Nav and Shaker 1000?
So I'm putting together, on paper at least, the new 5.0 I've decided I'd sell my soul for. One thing I keep running in to is that Ford will not let you have the Navigation AND the Shaker 1000- what gives? Is is an issue with overall power-draw? Is it something the "accessory" guys at the dealership can do after the car is delivered?
The obvious answer is buy one or the other after the fact, but I have the Shaker 1000 in my '07 GT and it hits plenty hard for me and looks clean in the trunk and my wife has the Nav in her '09 Escape and it's really nice. Can I have my cake and eat it too?

Interesting point. I didn't know that. The new alternators are well over 100 amps now. Even at idle they put out around 40 amps, so current draw shouldn't be an issue. Maybe it's a problem with both units fitting into the dash?
I always thought the standard stereo was fine, and the Shaker 500 was more than adequate. I would go for the nav. system. Besides, you will be listening to that awesome V8 engine anyway.

I had the shaker 500 in my 08 and have the shaker 1000 in my 10. Go for the shaker 1000!
The shaker 1k is a much better stereo and because of the factory integration it will be a PITA to get an aftermarket headunit. SYNC works great and if you have a bluetooth phone w/ GPS it will give you turn by turn navigation ANYWAY...even if you didn't buy the nav unit. So yeah, if you have a GPS phone (I don't think the car has GPS built in w/out nav option) you can have your cake and eat it too!
FWIW, I'd rather have the turn by turn audio directions than have to look at a screen anyway. It works well and will interrupt whatever you're listening to to tell you when and where to turn, then return to where you were on your CD or USB audio.
It's WAAAAAAYYYYYYY easier to upgrade the nav than the stereo...

How much weight is added to the car with the 1000 and its sub? I just have the 500 with the Sirius but other than listening to the radio when polishing the car it gets no use. I prefer listening to the whine and exhaust over msuic news etc.

I hear what you're saying about the V8 soundtrack, and believe me I agree, but like STANGmole said the 1000 is pretty sweet when it comes to factory systems. Puts a grin on my face, and isn't that why we own mustangs?

I'm not sure to be honest, something to the tune of 40-60lbs rings a bell but I could definitely be wrong.
