Default Belt chirp

When I start my car in the morning, I get a belt chirp that eventually fades out. It increases with rpm. Should I be concerned? Is there an easy fix?

Some say I need a new belt, what say ye?

Thanks!

Get a piece of 4 ft. hose and when you start it up in the morning quickly run around and hold the hose to your ear and each individual pully.Caution beware of catching stuff in rotating assemblies. You should be able to find out where the chirp is coming from. Then loosen your belt off and inspect that pully for wobbling or grinding. If it's obviously noisy you probably have a bad pully bearing. If no results maybe you might need a new belt since your not running a blower which can cause annoying chirps which come and go. But usually a new belt can solve this problem unless your pullies are out of alignement. There are threads all over in these forums concerning belt chirp squeal etc.

As said above. If the belt change helps, but doesn't make it go away?

Look at the pulley on the tensioner. Look at any other idler pulley.

I went thru this on my Mk VIII and still had that squeak at the traffic light. I changed the bearings in the alt. also. Looking for anything after a while. Warrantied several belts [Gates] and it was no help.

It was embarrassing to me.

The fix was eventually replacing the tensioner. The spring had gotten weak.

Now this car had over 100,000 miles.

I've had this exact same problem with my 1999 Ranger for a few years now. It got worst during damp/rainy days. Even after replacing the belt tensioners and pulley. The culprit is the belt as it runs over the ribbed pulleys. The solution is a better quality belt like Goodyear Gatorback poly V-Belt.
