Default Tunes and Gas Milage..

OK... Just how much does putting a tune on your car affect your gas mileage?

With gas getting closer and closer to $3.00 a gallon in the Midwest (It is alreay at $3.00 in parts of Calif I understand!). The milage factor is worth considering.

It won't hurt your gas mileage at all as long as you stay out of it. To make a tune worth while though you will want to do a premium gas tune so it will cost more obviously for premium than regular. Mine does better with the tune but that is because I was running rich.

Yeah - if your're worried about gas (which apparently we all need to worry the way its going [&:] ) then stay away from the tunes that require Premium!!! I just filled up at $2.71 on Saturday in Louisville (for Premium) - and when I got home to Indy, it was up to $2.85. And they say its going nowhere but up []

Here in Oklahoma I only pay an extra .10 per gallon for premium (91 octane). That comes to $1.40 extra per tank full @14 gallons. I still get 20mpg with a tune that has been proven to run in the twelves in the quarter mile. I could put my factory tune back in, but it only got about 21-22mpg.

Not sure how it works regionally - but here in the midwest (at least in the IN & KY area) I can't find 91 octane. All the gas stations that I've ever been to only offer 87, 89 and 93.
