Question Purchasing!

Dear Forum,

I spend six months of the year in Park City Utah as a ski instructor; for the coming winter, Nov 2011. I am planning on buying a Mustang, then exporting it back to Scotland. (April 2012)

Ive got quotes from shipping companies and im all set for the export, however, the question to you all is which Mustang to buy!

Generally, I like all 2004 onwards models. Engine size is irrelevant (it will be expensive to run regardless back in the UK, with V6 or V8). It will be a Coupe, not convertible.

I like the trim on the 2006 GT models, the 4.6. Anything around the 2010 year mark will be too expensive. I intend to have around $17000 to play with. Not credit.

Any recommendations on which state to buy in? When I fly in, i can land in any state. Therefore, buying the mustang in the state I land, driving to PC and using it for the season. Some states have acid rain, some grit the road heavily and will rust the chasis more, et cetera.

So my questions in general.
  • Recommendations of 2006 - 2010 Models
  • Private or Retail purchase
  • Which state to buy in

Any recommendations would be very welcome indeed. (ive left myself a good 10 months of preparation so, we should be all good!!)

Jamie

2007 GT stock should be in your range...This will get you out of the bugs associated with the 2005-06 (water leak, ect)...Just my 2 cents

Get an 07 - 08 GT Premium with the IUP (Interior Upgrade Package)... makes for a nice interior.

BTW, 08 models started offering HIDs, ambient lighting, and premeir trim as options.

I wouldn't fly into chicago. Sales tax in Chicago is killer and tacks on an extra 10% to your purchase price. Not to mention that Illinois does a good bit of salting the roads which isn't ideal when looking for a used car. I'd say flying into Florida would be a better idea plus I would think you'd have a better selection of mustangs down there since the weather is always nice.

Try the south west region. The desert makes stuff last for ever.

Stay away from the North, especially the area around the great lakes.

They dont call that area "The Rust Belt" for nothing.

Maybe some one can give you advice on what states have sales tax.

I would also stay away from Major cities. Those are hard miles for cars, and they usually charge a bit more.

Personally If it were me, I would probably look some where in Yuma, or Kingman, AZ.

But thats just me.
