Are Hoodliner and CAI shield importang?
Ok, I am getting ready to install a GT500 Heat extractor in my 05...and I have to take the hood liner out and cut a hole in it, I was wondering how important it is to put the whole thing back in. Isn't the whole idea to get the heat OUT of the engine bay?
Second part...I was cleaning the filter to my CAI today...and I have seen plenty of cars that DON'T have a shield around their CAI. Can someone give me an insight or is there anyone running w/o one...and if so, what are the risks?
Thanks

i took off my hood liner when i put in the Whipple. i think it looks way better without it.
and runs just fine without it.
i think a heat shield helps some, but not necessary.
the heat exchanger will help.

If I've not mistaken, the hood liner is there to help protect the paint on your hood from the heat in the engine bay. Since you'll have the heat extractor hood, I don't see a need for it.
The heat shield is there to keep the heat from the engine bay from being inducted. It will only harm your performance slightly. The idea of a CAI is to get cold air inducted by the engine, not hot air from the engine bay.

I do not know about the 4.6L engines, but the Coyote 5.0L comes stock with headers form the factory. And the thing about headers is they unfortunately radiate ALOT of heat into the engine bay.
The GT500 hoods have heat extractors built into them straight from the factory to combat the engine bay heat. The heat extractors are not mere decorative non-functional items.
As for GTs without the heat extractors in the hoods, shielding the intake from the engine bay heat helps in keeping the fresh fuel-air charge cool, but I very seriously doubt that it is a power added like the CAI and tune itself. Maybe +1 or 2 HP? You cannot feel the difference.
