Guys who have switched to 4.10s
#23
Went to 4.10s when Procharger was installed to wake it up a tad, but 1st gear was useless. Then switched to a 4r70w 3 speed auto and upped the boost with built motor.
vid is 4.10s with about 16-18lbs boost with the 67mm turbo and the 4r70. Car is launching off a transbrake with 2 step.

Then switched to a 67mm turbo, then a 76mm. As car went faster and faster and 22 lbs boost, had to offset the 4.10s with larger diameter tires. In the end using a 29 inch Hoosier.
Vid is with 76mm turbo, 4.10s, 4r70w, transbrake and Hoosiers.

With new build and 2 speed powerglide, expecting mid 140s trap, gone to 3.50 gears

definitely get the 4.10s. I drive on the dallas highways constantly and have no complaints. I start to find the revs irritating at around 80-85 mph with my exhaust so on long trips I just turn the radio up. when the revs are that high you feel relatively minor throttle imputs pretty well so I use cruise control. With both of those, road trips aren't a problem.
3.55s @ 70mph rpm was about 2250
4.10s @ 70mph rpm is about 2750
DO NOT BUY A USED GEAR SET! used gears will already have a pattern worn into them and unless that pattern can be matched perfectly when installed in your car (which for all intents and purposes is impossible) you will have issues. New gears aren't that expensive anyways.
The bearing kit itsn't a bad idea. The carrier bearings are way more trouble than theyre worth to replace especially with on 15k miles but the pinion bearings are easy to change and the old inner pinion bearing can be used to easily set up pinion depth during the install should you choose to do the work yourself.
