Default need quick help: Ford ESP plans

First off, I assume most who have the extended plans signed up for Premium Care vs the Extra Care plan? I am shopping around now and prices seem to vary widely depending on which dealer & which state. I found a couple Ford dealers online willing to sell the 7 year/60k miles plan for under $900 with $50 deductible. Our 2008 only has 15.6k miles, so the 60k miles plan will suffice as a 3rd car.

Can i assume this is a good deal? I saw some that were asking about $1k on this plan.

thanks everyone...

I never buy the ESP. But, that's just me. I don't think it's worth it and that it's just a way for the dealers to rake in some cash.

I've never used it on the last 3 fords I've bought and had the ESP with them. The only reason I had purchased them in the past was piece of mind, (Free rentals and such for whenever my car was in the service dept more than a day). Now that my kids are all driving (or will be later this year). No point in it fo rme any more. Plus I have extra cars I can borrow now

If you figure the plan costs about between 2-3K and most work (short of replacing an engine or a tranny) will cost about half that.

If you are concerned, put 2K aside for emergency and don't worry about. When you go to sell that car, use the 2K you have stashed for down payment for the new one.

And yes, if you plan on getting one, get the premium one (free rentals, tow, etc).

Derf... its more for piece of mind... this is a 3rd car for us so I need no rental or immediate repair. But I was thinking to get the Premium Plan for less than $900 sounds reasonable.. that breaks down to < $225 per year for 4year coverage. Not $2-3k that you mentioned

Ahhh...mine were all purchased for new cars. Not used.

Anyways, I would read the exclusions part CAREFULLY. My guess is that the difference between what I purchased and what you will be purchasing is that mine were extensions of the OEM Bumper to Bumper coverage. Very little was excluded.

On a Used car (even though the OEM warranty is still in effect), the coverages will be more limited. Read the exclusionary coverage (what's not covered). If you start seeing things like P/S (pwer steering Pump), A/C, Window or wiper motor, etc, I wouldn't waste the money.

When they start excluding the things that are most likely to go wrong, they're not going to be worth it.

Our Mustang is still in std 3 year warranty period until end of next month so this is the std Ford new auto ESP Premium plan that covers numerous items including all that you mentioned... thanks

What is not: Exhaust system, belts & hoses, squeaks & rattle issues, tires and balancing, alignment, shock absorbers, lights and basic brake maintenance, filters & fluids, wiper blades & tires of course. See below link

Nice link. Seem pretty inclusive. My only concern would be the squeak and rattle clause. That seems like it could be a pretty massive get out jail free card. What is the definition of squeak and/or rattle?

I imagine squeaks and rattle would include items like the dashboard rattling, windows, trunk, etc... if there's good build quality than they s/b minimal. My '06 330ci is going on 5 yrs and its quiet as could be still. knock on wood... bang-bang. But this Premium care plan for well under $1k seems pretty good.. it covers ~ 500 or so items per Ford
