Question Is a 9.5" wheel wide enough for the rear on the 5.0?

So, it's no secret the RTR wheels are amazing. My only concern is will the 9.5" wide RTR wheels be wide enough for the rear with the amount of power the 5.0 is making?

I have the TSW Nurburgrings in mind also, in which I'd do staggered 9.5" wide up front and 10.5" wide in the rear so I could get a greater tire contact patch.

What do you guys think?

What exactly is your criteria for "wide enough"??? Are the 285's that can fit on the RTR rims wide enough? Yes, the extreme power of the 5.0 won't make you lose control at the slightest of throttle inputs, lol. Sure you can fit 10.5" wheels back there with 305's or maybe even 315's. That said, the car seems to do well with the stock brembo 9" wheels and 255 tires. Its up to you how wide you want the rears to be. Its like asking "what flavor ice cream should I like?"

There's not really a specific adhesion limit I'm after. It is more of an opinion based question just to get a feel for what everyone else has experienced. So your statement that the car does fine with the stock brembos is good information that helps me out. And btw, you should definitely like rainbow sherbert instead of ice cream :-P thanks for your input!

I really wish the wheel wells would accommodate 11" or 12" wheels. but since 10" is about the limit and 285's will fit a 9.5"... and 285's have a better selection than 295's or 305's, it's good enough.

Sounds like you're settling haha. I do wish 11 or 12 would fit also. That would make for a sick stance!

imho the best tire isn't always the widest. get something with good grip and a 9.5 is probably enough. my boss has 285's on the rear and the factory pirelli tires are impressively good given the car made 420whp on a mustang dyno after some tweaks. i can launch the car without hop or much spin when i do it right, but if you want you can burn them down too. i expect if the car had 305's out back i could still burn them down without much effort.

i am not a fan of the looks of 295 up tires on the back of stangs unless you get them in a profile that makes them the same diameter as stock. when my factory tires are done ill be moving to a set of hankook ventus v12's since they are one of the few good performance tires out there that will fit on my factory wheels. i don't care for that thick look, but some guys here love that.

Very true. I've gone through a couple different sets of tires on my '01 and I've noticed that even though tires may be rated at AA A, there are some that perform better than others. Thanks for your input RTRs are looking to be the winner right now

I like the fit, the gap, the weight, and the price. TSW the sister wheel to the Nurburgring called Interlagos.
