Default how can i make the 12v outlets not hot when the car is off?

ive searched the forums, googled, and i havent come up with any info =/ i just got a radar detector and a few times, ive forgotten to turn it off when i leave my car, because for whataever reason, ford made these cars with 12v outlets always hot. id like to just have it turn on and off with the car. is there a way to do this, or even better, has anyone ever wired their detector straight to something else? thank you for anyone with any input =]

Well I know for a fact the 12v in the center console doesn't stay hot for long after you turn the car off. It will turn off after a while and the next time I get in the car I will have to unplug and re plug my phone charger in again or it wont work.

There's a meter on the circuit that cuts power if too much is drawn after the key is turned off to protect the battery's charge. So things like GPS/Radar Detectors/etc. will probably cause it to shutdown faster than just a phone charge.

Best way to do it is hardwire into the SJB (Smart Junction Box). It is located in the passenger footwell behind the little plastic cover. There are a few circuits that become hot with the key on accessories. Use an add-a-fuse to tap into one.

Sorry I don't have the wiring diagram, but it shouldn't be too hard to google that info. If you can't find it, I'll pull the cover off my car and check for you.
