Still haven't gotten a trade value from a dealer but seems like private sale is the way to go even though it is a hassle and I won't get the break on sales tax. Did an Autotrader search for similar cars within "any distance". Only found about 3 almost exactly the same for sale and those were within 1000 - 2000 miles. Prices were about $28K - $31K with similar mileage. Except for the miles (12K) the car is in excellent condition - not a blemish - and very well maintained. Never modded. You would think this would count for something.

btw - not surprised by the carmax lowball offer. I avoid them at all cost.

Of course, once dealer/carmax has them, they will advertise it as the best deal ever and try to make at least $3k - $6K on it. That is a lot of profit.

edmunds true market value is usually more accurate than NADA and KBB in my experience. KBB is crazy...I suppose you could get KBB in trade if you were willing to pay KBB retail...
