Default Any thoughts on Hurst Short Shifters?

Hey guys - what are your opinions on the Hurst short shifters?

I'm ordering one tomorrow

Thanks!

Next month I do flywheel and clutch

Then gears.

Then I won't have school to deal with so I'll be working almost full time and getting close to a nice fat blower.

Then I'll be buying a cheap DD haha

I did a Google search for short throw shifters, that search led me to this forum with a post from "Blacksmoke". That post is what made me choose this forum. This is what he posted:

"Short throw shifters are AWESOME.

Id wait until the MGW shifter is out for the new GT's.
They are the BEST shifters HANDS DOWN for these cars.

Everything is adjustable.
The shift distance you can really personalize because you can do it in such small increments. Anywhere from 50-15% of the distance.

Plus you can even adjust the height of the shifter!

They are also the quietest shifter on the market.
Some shifters can buzz but these will NOT.
You can even have a cam job done on your car and have it shaking and the
shifter will remain silent.

Some shifters can also vibrate a little or be very NOTCHY.
This means they are kinda hard to shift.

The MGW is NOT like this. Now... it does become a bit notchy if you make the shift distance REALLY REALLY short, but compared to others it shifts as smooth as butter.

Some short throws also make shifting a little tricky from 2nd gear to 3rd.
The MGW eliminates this and makes it a FAST, EASY shift with the way it is designed and you can power shift with it ALL DAY.

Many people will tell you they like this shifter or that shifter.
This is really because that is the only short throw shifter they have tried or have not
tried many. NO ONE will tell you honestly they have tried the MGW compared to the other and like the other one better. If they do they are just fan boys and not being honest.

I really DO NOT say one brand is better than the next when it comes to pretty much any mod there is out there brand to brand. This is because there is usually parts I like better about each brand within the mod and what it offers compared to the other brand. I usually say it is a matter of taste and so do most people.

HOWEVER when it comes to short throw shifters it is a DIFFERENT story.
I will say as I did before... The MGW is hands down, without a DOUBT, THE BEST
shifter out there.

You have to order it online from them.
They do a GREAT job with instructions as well.
They give you paper instructions as well as a CD that makes it EASY to install if you have access to a lift.

The MGW for the new 5.0 should be out within a month or two if I am guessing correctly.
WAIT for the MGW short throw shifter to come out for your 5.0 and get it.
YOU WILL BE SO GLAD YOU DID.

The MGW for our 06GT was one of the funnest mods we did.

Plus you would be really surprised how much a short throw shifter will
help you if you do race.
It really cuts down on shifting time which can cut your times down even lower
than some high cost performance mods can simply because you get back into gear and accelerating again so much faster!"

Go to MGW's website. It's what I'm going to put in mine.

I just bought a 2007 GT that came with a Hurst. Still not sure I like it but will give it more time.

I was inbetween hurst and mgw. I went with mgw because of all the good things i heard about it. It has a nice classic look to it and shifts great. I highly recommend mgw.

Default Hurst ++

I installed a Hurst Competition Plus about 2 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. Nice short crisp shifts, easy install, quiet and great looking with the classic chrome Hurst embossed arm and white ball.

I love my Hurst. I had a Pro 5.0 in two prior Mustangs and it worked but the Hurst is much easier to shift plus I like the notchy feel of the Hurst.

Just order a MGW and call it a day. I ran a Pro 5.0 for a couple years and had no complaints, but after installing a MGW last summer, it was a nice improvement. Not only has adjustment flexibility, but also seems a lot tighter with zero rattles.

Unless you already ordered the Hurst, you can't beat this deal on TMS for a new MGW

Like they said, go with the MGW. I used to have a hurst and while it looked great, the extreme notchiness of it led to more than a few missed powershifts into third gear. I've never missed a gear with the MGW.

I went with a Pro 5.0 and it rattled like crazy. Then switched to the MGW and it was awesome, no rattles, great shifting, adjustable... Get the MGW.
