Just had a blow out on my second set of Pirrellis (stock tires for 2005 GT) in only 77000 miles. Gotta buy a new set. Recommendations?

And I was wondering if anyone runs a different size than stock. Maybe a little taller. Maybe a little wider? I have a completely stock 2005 GT.

I'd like a tire that lasted a little longer but I may be asking too much out of these little sport tires. What say ye?

 

Look into the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports

 

Depending on what your OE wheel width is, you most likely can go with 255's in lieu of the stock 235's. You can use any of the online calculators to ensure you choose a wider tire in a series that keeps you close to your OE tire's O.D. If you have a tuner, you can adjust for any significant differences. Just be aware that larger O.D.'s will tend to negatively impact performance similar to lowering your gearing.

I've been contemplating replacing the wife's OE 235/55-17 Perellis (about shot with less than 30k miles) on her '06 V6 Ponywith 255/50's. That's the widest you can go on the stock 17" Bullitt wheels. The problem is, that there are about 1/4th the choices in tires in that size.

 

At 83k, I am on my second set of Goodyear Eagle Performance Touring Edition. First set lasted over 50k and second set still has lots of tread. No issues in snow or Gulf Coast rain. When these are ready to go, I plan to go to 18" rims, but will probably stay with these tires.

 

I personally like the Pirellis. I think they ride good, are very quiet, last a good length of time, and seem to stick well. That'd be my choice for sure.

 

Michelins are pricy.. but i like them so far. On my 07, the stock all season pirelli's were pretty good, but seemed to be attracted to nails (plugged 2 tires at least 3 times each).

On my 11, the summer only pirelli's.. same story.. plugged each rear once.

Call me superstitious, but I think pirelli's like to pick up nails

I replaced my summer only pirelli's with Michelin Pilot A/S Sports and couldn't be happier. No nails so far.. and they do very well in the cold (even ice).. and are so far very consistent.

Are you looking for an all season or summer only tire?
