Default New Cold Air Intake option for 11-12 Mustang 5.0

Looking for Cold air intake kits I came across a Spectre 9928 that looks like it will be available in early March. prices I have seen have been anywhere from $140 to $170 , so about half the price of the least expensive Cold air kits available today. I can't find a photo available yet though. I'm sure the quailty may not be up there with K&N or JLT but for $150 I may try it. I have a Spectre kit on my 7.3 diesel and it has served me very well. I'm sure the naysayers will come out on this but I have always wondered how in the world a piece of pipe and filter for the new mustangs costs over $300.
Flamesuit on, lol

if it's just a piece of pipe and filter, build your own. it's only the main component taking in air for the engine, not an important piece at all, definitely cheap out on it :]

ok, how do you explain the difference in price between an intake kit for say a fox body and a newer mustang? Surely their isn't much more material involved. I know there must be places for additional sensors but what else? Is it money to soak up the expense of R&D?

They charge what they can get away with. Newer cars mean they're more expensive. This means you have more money if you're driving one. That means you can spend more money on the parts. Also, they can cover their costs faster if they charge more.

In 20 years maybe parts will be as cheap for these cars as they are for the Fox bodies now.

Koto covered it. It's unfortunate, but if you have a newer car, they milk you for more money. Companies charge a larger margin on recently developed products too. after a period of time, it becomes more gravy and less about recouping costs. prices fall eventually. not going to be for a long while though.
