Barton Shifter install THE EASY WAY!!
If you are like me (Huge) and or lazy and don't want to climb up under the car and if you don't want to be bothered with cutting your car up from the top or bending the metal please read on....
That is right...NO cutting and NO getting under the car. I know this technique will work if you have the stock shifter bracket....I can't speak for other aftermarket types.
So I started out (like a few others) cutting above the 4th bolt so I could remove it. While doing so I noticed some play in the transmission. I took a pry bar and to my pleasant surprise I could move the whole tranny over including the bolt over to gain access. I was able to remove and re-install the Barton shifter without a problem. I hope this move helps others...I wish I knew about it sooner. I jacked my car up just to find out I couldn't fit.
Pictures of how I did it are below...
You can see where I started to drill out the bolt...
Here is the after with the bolt gone...
Instructions for the rest of the install can be found anywhere. But this step will save anybody a LOT of time.
Here is the youtube video I liked the best for the rest of the install...

I don't know about the 4.6. The 5.0...this will work. I took it for a test run tonight and it works awesome. I had the rear axel up on jack stands and my small 2 ton jack was at its max. (jack stands are 6 ton) I'm 6'2" 310lbs so, its not that easy for me to squeeze up under the car. I gave up and looked for another way and came up with my solution. Works great.
