ive done so much snow driving and snow tire advocacy its not even funny anymore!

amazing secret fact about mustangs: put on 4 snow tires (i use good year ultra grips) and you can plow through 6 inches of snow like a 4x4. You won't need any weight in the back or nothin'! I have tried to get myself stuck by piling snow with a shovel all around my wheels, i dont get stuck.

my friend lives on a pretty steep hill, was driving up in his FWD ford edge, got stuck, got his mustang with snow tires, and drove up it like it was nothing.

All season tires are no substitute for good snow tires on all 4 wheels.

It's ALWAYS tires. Back in the day my friends and I all owned 5.0 Foxbodies, a car notorious in bad weather. We'd slap real ice radials on some cheapo 15" wheels and run the 4WDs into the ditch, no problem, all day long. No traction/stability control, no ABS, a suspension and chassis design from 1978. No matter.

Don't underestimate modern all-seasons either. I just put Michelin Pilot Sport AS3s on my BBP '12. While no ice radial, they will get the car moving, stopping and turning in the snow. I tested it last week.

The problem is your tires. The Nitto 555 is a "summer oriented ultra high performance" tire. It won't have any traction in snow - probably gets pretty stiff and hard due to its design.

Save yourself some money and get a new set of wheels and tires that are more oriented to winter. Even all season tires are better than what you are running. I used the Pirelli Pzero Nero with no problems. Switched to the Nitto Motivo and liked those better for a number of reasons (quieter than the Pirelli for one)
That is good info.... I was thinking "I have new tires I should be fine" I didn't even think they are just totally wrong.

However, I hate the idea of taking my car out in the salt and snow. Plus I could use a truck for other things any way. (always borrowing my family struck or renting one anytime I have to move something that wont fit in my trunk) But, that does explain my traction issues.
