Default Options for new motor

been a few years since I’ve been on here. Tracked down my old 07 gt from high school and the owner said it had problems and the dealer told him it needed a new motor. Cost is $9k so he is just going to try to get rid of it.

Im interested in everyone’s opinion of what I can do with it and the approximate costs. Rebuild the motor, new engine etc.

i have never rebuilt a motor, so am unsure if I will be able to do that myself.

Thanks guys!

Not enough info to give you any valid answers. It all depends on what the problem with the engine is. Things like a cracked block really can't be fixed. Piston or rod failures where the cylinder is still intact is one thing, times where the cylinder is compromised, it can be re-sleeved, you can pick up a new (remanufactured) short block for just a couple thousand... assuming the heads are good, or a junkyard long block for a bit less...
It all depends on what the damage is.

It all depends what you want out of the car, if you are ok with stock power, go with a remanufactured engine, about $2500-$3500.

The owner is talking with the dealer to find out what exactly is wrong with it. I think I would want to go with a remanufactured engine, as I am no comfortable rebuilding it myself.

can anyone speak to the difficulty of this? Where is the best place to buy an engine?
