Question Need help debugging fuel problem

2005 Roush GT with Kenne Bell Stage I s/c. Has >90k miles with the s/c and has been running like a champ until last year when parts started to break (rear axle seals, p/s pump). A couple of weeks ago the car overheated at idle after running fine on the highway. Time for a new radiator (was running stock) so put a new Mishimoto in it. Fired it up and the car was running ~15 degrees cooler than before - mission accomplished!

Or so I thought. After I'd run it a couple of times for 15-20 minutes at idle to flush air out of the cooling system, I took it for a drive. After a couple of minutes the engine started to stutter and lose power. Within another block it would barely idle, then died.

Was throwing a pending code of P0191 - fuel rail pressure sensor. Seemed like an easy fix. replaced the sensor - no change. Figured it might be the 15-year-old fuel pump (that's been running with a Kenne Bell Boost-a-Pump for 90k miles). Ford engineers designed that one right - <20 minutes to swap the fuel pump assembly! Car started up but then quit after idling for about 15-20 seconds. Cranks but won't start. Sometimes stutters a bit before stalling.

I'm not sure what to do next. Would low or intermittent fuel pressure throw a P0191? Or is this definitely pointing to the sensor or related wiring?

Any thoughts appreciated!
Mike.

fuel filter? its under the car, under the plastic cover under the drivers seat. when I changed mine, it took longer to get the damn cover off than it did to change the filter. good luck

Thanks, I think that's the next obvious thing. As luck would have it my fuel pressure gauge isn't working.

Thumbs up Fuel issue solved!

So after replacing the fuel rail pressure sensor/sender and fuel pump and sender assembly, still no joy. I followed bl817's suggestion of the next likely culprit - fuel filter. 10 minute $10 fix and the problem is solved! Purrs like a(n angry) kitten!

About $400 in ($60 for sender, $300 fuel pump and sender) I have a practically new fuel system, so I'm happy about that.

Thanks for reading the thread!
