i have an 89 and 93 octane tune in my sct xcal2 from alternative auto. i've made runs with 89 and with the 93 tune up and no difference in e.t. or mph by changing fuel and tune. it's only 2-3 degrees difference in timing with the xcal2 you can play with your timing and fuel a little so far it's made no difference from lidio's orginal tune. i agree the xcal2 is the way to go with an auto and predator with manual.

My 05, GT 5M, gained 15hp and 20tq on a Dynojet with just the canned Diablo 87 tune, no CAI or anything else. Interestingly enough, the canned predator 91 tune increases my gas mileage enough over the 87 to pay for the higher gas, didn't have it dynoed for power but it doesn't feel any better than the 87. I finally installed the steeda cai & sct x-cal2 from jms chips. The car when programmed with any of the custom tunes will go into the failsafe engine mode[sm=headbang.gif] I'm waiting to hear back from jms to see what they can do. I flashed the computer back to stock and finally got the check engine light off. I went to the gas station & filled up with 93 octane because I am getting a pinging noise and the cel came back on[:@]If jms can't figure the problem out I am going with brenspeed for the sct/c&l cai package

I don't know a thing about mechanical issues...

How difficult would it be to flash my computer (06 GT auto) and reflash it before any service is done? Can you flash the computer without other mods? If so, what kind of performance increase will this give?

Wilson,

I see you have an automatic. Seriously consider the C & L CAI and SCT X-CAL II from brenspeed. My car picked up over .4 in the 1/4 mile with this package only. The shift parameters for the automatic are worth the price of the kit alone! AWESOME!!!!

Hello,

When tuning for mods, has anyone noticed any long term negative affects in reference to the life of the engine or other mechanical parts?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Done right, your experience should be just the opposite. It is the extra stress (hp) from the mods that will do any additional long term damage rather than the tune. The tune is just so that once you change the operational characteristics of the engine by modifying it, the tune will then allow the engine to run correctly with those mods. So the tune actually prevents long term damage. The reason I said, "done right" is because if the tuner is too aggressive, damage can be done. It is important to stick with a well respected experienced tuner. There are several mentioned in the forums here I've noticed. -Joe

"You SHOULD NOT be running 87 octane in your car even at factory."

The car comes from the factory rated for 87 octane.

i did the diablo predator install by itself and i loaded the 87 oct performance tune b/c i still had a 1/4 tank of gas left of 87 octane. i noticed a HUGE difference just from loading the tune. amazing throttle response, rpm's rose like crazy and more power. when i changed to a 93 oct tune i couldn't tell muchof a difference from the 87 tune but it did feel smoother. about a month later i added the JLT CAI and loaded the JLT tune that comes pre loaded on the diablo predator

The change of the grade of gas accounts for a little bit difference but the big difference is the changes in timing and so forth. That is why when you loaded the tune originally you felt the big defference and not so much when changing the octane level.
