Installation of Ford Performance Headers 05 Stang
Just installed these headers from Ford Racing Performance P/N M-9430-S197C they are ceramic coated shorty headers. and they are a real bear to install. the lower bolts on each side just over the motor mounts are almost impossible to get out unless you take the motor mount off. all in all the installation went ok all of the nuts, studs and bolts that are on the headers from the factory are metric. The bolts that come with the headers are 1/2 SAE had to cut done a socket so that I could install the lower bolts on the RT. side. The HEGO sensor on the passenger's side is impossible to disconnect unless you take the plastic push in clip out of the transmission housing. These are the green quick disconnect connectors (one on each side)you will need to use a small flat tip screw driver and push the tip in on the clip and they will pop loose. Make sure that the Battery is disconnected before you start disconnecting any sensor's. the installation didn't change the sound of the exchaust under the hood but I can tell the diferance in the performance and I still haven't done the reflash yet. But that will come when I install the C&L intake.

RE: Installation of Ford Performance Headers 05 Stang
know what you went through boss! just put my hooker L/T's on last week. that lower bolt you are talking about is a MF'er. i went out and bought a set of metric gear wrenches and a new set of xsmall 1/4" drive metric sockets before i even started. also anyone else ready to tackle this: make sure you have a 5mm wrench or socket. you will need this to remove the old studs. on the passenger side #2 tube lower bolt i think i had an extension about a foot 1/2 long with a wobble and a flex to remove it! hey at least we didn't have to take the k/member out like my buddy's cobra!!
so helpful hints....5mm socket and a 13mm gear wrench are must haves for this job and even still plan on a long time on your back or under the lift. it took me 2 hours to tighten all the bolts after the headers were on and the bolts were all started!!! i can assure you mine won't leak though.

You are so right spyder7724, I found it was just as easy to loosen the nuts just a little and then use the 5mm socket and remove the studs and nuts all at once.

When I get mine I'm not even going to bother with putting them in myself. The auto shop on post charges next to nothing for work and they can do it in a day.
