Noise while turning? Almost like stairs creaking
It's like the sound you make when you step on a wooden step..but louder and more obnoxious. If I'm painting the right picture, I've heard this in my older v6 with 94k miles on it, but this is on my 2004 Mach 1 with 5,000 miles on it. Anyone have any idea what causes this?
Thanks!

There's a TSB for this, I believe its the length of the tubes in the steering rack.. I'd assume it's the same rack as a GT; one member with a GT posted a "how to" for slightly cutting the tubes which seems to relieve the problem. The tubes brand new are like 4 bucks each, but if you still have a warranty, have Ford take care of it. My warranty is up this month and I might have them do mineas well.

You can get some white grease, cut the end of the sparay straw at an angle, poke it in the boot and spray. Turn the wheels a couple of times and it will stop. If the steering is tight, you should be alright. I think inside the boot, the grease gets dry.

Here are the details:

I bought the new steering rack brackets, grease and was ready to do the job on my 03 GT when this happened:

Ah well - perhaps I can use them on my next stang - a Mach 1!
