Don't use porch screen, you need the factory screen. From what I understand, the screen straightens out the air flow so it passes over the MAF sensors correctly. I would just spend the $35, it is a rip off, but you need to fix it right and there is no where else to get it.
You are correct. I simply suggested the porch screen to troubleshoot the problem. It's obviously not the right part for the car to operate normally (if that is infact the problem), but it could decrease the problem. This would diagnose the problem. It's just something i would do before i dropped $35 to the dealer. If i was in a rush to get it fixed, i would just get ford screen and see if a difference was made. The choice is yours 5speedstang...

Thanks Gov,
I was just wondering, since autos dont normally slip the trans in neutral when comming to a stop or exiting a freeway since you had no issues. The first few weeks I didnt have a issue either figuring that the ones who put it theirs together had a leak between the maf and the throttle body which I have checked by spraying carb spray around all the areas that could leak. I even took a small hose clamp for the pcv. Wrong I was exiting a freeway slipped into neutral just as I made the apex of the turn stall, no power anything slipped it into 3rd and released the clutch to start it. But it was scary for a spilt second. So I hope yours never gives you a issue just be aware that it might happen.

If you read the box the K&N cai came in is says for offroad use only. That tells me it is engineered for W.O.T. not for drivabilty which sems to be the issue here why did Ford put the screen in.

Incorperating the screen with my cai was the only way I could use it without stalling. I like the fact of how it cleans up the engine compartment by eliminating the intake resonator (milk jug)

i dont have a k and n i have a JLT. ford put the screen in so you get a better/more even air flow over the MAF sensor. trust me they do make a differnce.

its the screen. those without a screen and having no problems are just plain lucky. Had the same issue (search under my threads, I don't post much [&:]) as bought the mach with a steeda air intake, prev owner took off the screen. Posted here, and another member was kind enough to send me one for next to nothing. since date of install not a single stallout, rpm hang, etc, etc.

so as im driving i notice this more on the freeway when i go to switch freeways. i go to get onto the on ramp and push the clutch in after driving at 70 for a few. so i push the clutch in as i enter the onramp. half way threw when i get to about 40 i put it in 4th(if the car doesnt stall) it stalls at this point. or if im coming to a light and just throw outta gear it will stall as im breaking. my gt never did this that much or in the areas my mach does. any ideas?
What is the factory size Throttle body of a GT ours are twin 57mm larger I am thinking. As far as stalling when you apply the brake Hydro boost would be the likely cause with out the screen the maf cant accurately meter the air flow causing the rpm to drop so low when you apply the brakes the motor stalls because of load and lower than idle rpm mine would fall to about 400 rpms. Sorry but I didnt fully read your post about the braking issue.

Why is such a big deal being made over forking out $35 for an OEM screen? Sure it's robbery, but this is for a Mach 1, an exceptional car that listed for $28K+ when new, not some POS Neon. The screen will eliminate the stalling. The only reason for fabricating a screen might be for use with a K&N Aircharger.
