picking up a mach1
27k miles
18 grand
mint, 100% stock. only downside is that it's an auto though it's less then a hour drive away. on the other hand there are some farther out that are stick shift and mint condition. what would you mach 1 pros recommend going after? i currently own a '89 LX 5.0. very few mods as you can see in my sig. what sort of power difference will i notice? much? just trying to clear up a few things, i appreciate all the help i can get. i'm looking at it this weekend and will make a purchase by christmas the latest.

You will be able to tell a pretty good amount of difference between an auto and a 5spd. I would go for the 5spd personally. You can always stall the auto if you want to make it quicker off the line. If you are going to buy an auto, and live in NC, I know where a white Auto is for $17k with 6k miles on it if your intrested. Let me know and I'llpost the link.
There is a good 3-4 tenths between an Auto and a 5spd-both stock. But like I said, the auto can be made just as fast with a couple of mods. One other thing that's slowing the auto down is the lower rev-limit. 5800rpm compared to the 5spd's 6800rpm limit.

does the price sound about right? as for the transmission, you're probably right and i'll end up regretting it. i'm not going to make this a track car but a daily driver. i can't find any manual machs in the chicago area...any suggestions? i'll still be checking out the auto this weekend, i'd like to see how it compares to my stock 5.0

woah. i just came across a couple really really great websites and pulled up like 4 or 5 manual mach 1 being sold in illinois. fair prices and low miles! how much of a power gain will i notice from the stock 5.0? very excited!

No disrespect towards your 5.0, but it doesn'tcompare to the Mach. You're going to have to drive one to know just how much power difference there is. Night and Day. If you drive in alot of heavy traffic, the auto might not be a bad idea.
Try autotrader if you haven't already. The price is a little high, but youshould be able toget them down to 16.5 fairlyeasy. Car sales are down right now and they probably just want to get it off the lot....assuming it's at a dealership. If it's a private seller, don't pay over 15.

My advise is to just be patient....wait until a 5 spd pops up. Buying a car that your not 100% sure about is a bad idea. I'm sure more will turn up in the next 6 months.(plus you will be able to drive it in nice weather...not pick it up with 4 ft of snow on the ground[:@]I know I live in Milwaukee).
