Default Safety schtick...

Hey bruddas..

Something I was just considering when I went to check out the safety regs @ Kennedale since they operate on the NHRA rulebook, I will probably need a roll bar and a five-point harness with the quick release before they'll let me track my new mods.. Does anybody know how expensive it is to have a sanctioned roll bar (not an 8-pt roll cage, I'll never have that much power.. LOL ) and a harness installed? The belts should be pretty simple, the helmet too, but I know the roll bar will require welding, probably at a frame shop of some sort..

Just looking for any beads of knowledge I can get so I know what to expect pricewise when I start trying to make this thing happen later on in the summer...

How fast do you plan on running? I didn't think you need a cage until 11.5's or lower.

To have a bar installed and painted I would guess about $800-1000 including the cage, shipping and installation.

Well, I'd honestly be happy as a dog in a hubcap factory if I could run high 10's.. And you're right on there.. the 08 rulebook says that for all street classer's running11.5 or under you have to have a roll-bar, a sanctioned helmet, and a five-point harness with a quick release.. the harness and helmet I can get from Steeda, as I know they sell both, but I wouldn't have the first clue where to look for a roll bar.. You don't need the 8-pt roll cage unless you're running under 10.0's I think, which I'll never see.. But with the set-up I've already got, I figure once I get enough runs, and get my driver mod dialed in I SHOULD be able to run between 11 and 11.5 at least..

I'm pretty sure I won't need anything else other than those three things, but I'll check the book again just to make sure when I get the chance..

Know any place can either fab, or carries in stock roll bar's that would fit?

Maximum Motorsports makes bars and cages. They range from $280-$450 plus shipping. I would definitely give them a call and talk to them about your needs.

Where in BFE, Texas are you located? Even though I'm in IA, I'm from TX and I have some contacts there.

At the moment brudda I'm working in Iraq, due to rotate out in August if all goes well. Right now the car is with my Dad in Haslet, which is about 40min north/north-west of Ft. Worth on 170.. I know where gearheads in Arlington is, as they did the install when I had to replace my 3.55's.. I checked out Maximum Motorsports website as jmac suggested up there and it looks like they have some pretty good deals on a 7-pt cage, that wouldn't require any welding inside the car..

Any extra ideas or people to talk to would be much appreciated brudda.. Thanks.

On a second note, I've got family in both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City pounder, what part of IA are you in?
