Thanks Fur. Man, you guys got me laughin' my arss off. Now I gotta figure out how to do that w/ my Diablo. Hopefully, my MIL will go off after I turn them off. At emissions, would "not ready" pass? Thanks again man.
I'm running BBK MIL eliminators. They pass the computer, but of course the lack of cats don't pass the visual. Luckily, my inspector doesn't look for them. My GTO and Z28 passed as well, only difference with them is that were Dyno Tuned instead of having MILs, so evidentaly the program thatthe dyno guyuses works differently, which maybe why Furinox and I were butting heads.
So this is what I've got so far.
1. Handhelds simply turn off the rear O2s, causing a "not ready" to pop up on the inspection.
2. For LS1 cars, leaving the sensors in and getting a dyno tune will result in a "ready" on the inspection.
3. Using MIL eliminators and keeping the rear O2s in tacton a Mustang results in a pass.
Keep in mind, that the LS1 cars I had don't have to be tuned with a Handheld or chip like the Mustang does. The tuner simply uploads certain parameters into the PCM using HPtuners or whatever they have.So the tuning equipment the prosuse is probably (or obiviously) more advanced than a handheld.

Thanks again. Just went through emissions before putting on the o/r h, so for now I can just leave em unplugged and turn em off w/o worrying about anything. No sense in spending the loot on extensionsandMIL eliminators, unless I come across anunresistable deal,if I ain't going through emissions for another 23 mos. You guys rock.
I just thought of something. I had a Hypertech handheld for awhile for my Z28. No cats, all sensors in place and hooked up. It passed. My younger cousin has a handheld as well for his 98 Cobra with no cats, his passes too.
Conclusion, if you leave the sensors hooked up and use a handheld, your car is supposed to pass, in fact, it WILL pass. If you leave then unhooked and use a programmer, it will fail. A "Not ready" is not going to pass if its coming from the O2.
Get the extensions, plug in those O2s, and either buy some MILs or a programmerif you want to pass before your next inspection.

Fur had me doubting myself. I was under the assumption that his car was passing inspection, which threw me for a loop.
Extensions are dirt cheap BTW.Or, you can just splice the wires and add wire if you want too. Doesn't cost as much. I did that on the GTO and it worked fine.

K thanks man. I ain't gonna get into splicing. Usually go cheapest way, but know when to just do it right if it's within my means. 12:45 in MD, my *** is hittin' the sack. Talk to ya 2maro bro.

It doesnt matter if it is plugged in or not. Any car that has their sensors turned off with a tuner says not ready. Each state is different and certain states dont care if they say not ready and will pass anyways as long as a check engine light is not on.

So now you're trying to tell me that the two cars I'm talking about that were both tuned with a Handheld and passed with a READY for the cats, didn't really happen. FYI, I live in NC where they DO care about emissions, in fact, they are strict as hell about it here. I'm telling you that they both passed, as well as tons of other cars that have used a handheld.
Let me ask you something. Have you even/ever had your rear 02s hooked up while using a handheld? If you haven't (which I know you haven't), how can you sit there and tell me I'm wrong. Furinox, you are wrong. HANDHELDS WILL PASS THE CAR IF THE 02s ARE INTACT REGARDLESS OF CATS. Why don't you go over to the tech section and tell them that a handheld will cause a not ready for the cats. They will tell you the same thing I'm desperatly trying to tell you. They WILL pass if you hook up the fukn sensors. I've done it, others have done it. Its one of the primary reasons people spemd $400 on a tuner.

Not true. If your rear O2 sensors are turned off, (where and how would the tuner go about turning them off anyway, they dont have an on/off) how is the PCM going to determine the voltage/resistance change it recieves from the primary O2 sensor and the secondary? If, hypothetically, you turned off/unplugged the rear sensor, the PCM is still getting a primary O2 reading and is searching for the secondary thats never going to turn up. Doesn't make sense. I know the rear sensor alone doesn't determine the A/F mixture, but the front doesn't work independently either. The primary and secondary sensors work as a unit in other words. Mils don't change the voltage, they keep it the same using resistors. The voltage doesn't have to be exact, just within a given range.
True, chambered mufflers don't rob a ton of HP over Straight thru mufflers considering no cat-back is giving you much power to begin with, but if you consider that a cat-back might give you 5-7rwhp, then that 1-3 hp difference that the chambered robs you of is a pretty good amount considering the additional low gain.
Using a 7rwhp gain.......SLP= 7rwhp gain
Flows= 4rwhp gain 6rwhp if there was a 1 HP difference (very unlikely)

The reason mustangs pass in most locations even when reading not ready on the rear o2 sensors is because, like i've already said, some states give leniencies on x amount of items on the inspection list. I believe texas doesn't pass if you have 3 items fail or giving a not ready code. A budy of mine passed his inspection a couple months ago and showed me the document from the inspection station show that the sensor's were not ready, yet overall the car passed.
