Performance and gasoline
First off, what is special about these Mach 1s? Is the car basically a breathing cobra without the supercharger? I know that they have 4V motors, but I am sort of looking for a reason why Ford made them and why they made them the way they did? What does the shaker scoop in the hood help? Is it ram air? Does it add horsepower?
Also, can you burn regular in these cars? Or is there something about them where it would be a good idea to put in premium only?
The reason that I ask all of this is because I want to get a mustang and I know all about the Cobras, but the whole reason that ford produced the Mach 1 in the early 00's is kind of a mystery to me.
Also, where can you get intake systems for these cars? It seems to me that the whole "ram air" or hood scoop thing that these cars have going on could limit your options.

RE: Performance and gasoline
well the mach 1 is fords "first " retro car with a production # of abuot 12k.
they have an aluminum block instead of the Iron like the cobra
32v same heads
best factory heads ever designed
the scoop helps some, but not enough to feel a diffrence it's mostly for looks
underrated with 305hp 325ftlbs
3.55 gears
t3650 tranny (5speed)
a 4r75w for 2004 4r70w for 2003 (im still looking into this one)
fastest N/a car ford sold in US
SRA
and all the suspension of the 2001 bullit

I'm not sure what the compression ratio is on cobra's but on mach's it's 10.1:1 which is higher than gt's which would require premium to run smoothly. I've put regular in mine before and it didn't knock or anything; I just got terrible gas mileage (~14 mpg wherever)
