half a quart in 1500 miles !!!
I was just outside cleaning the engine bay when i decided to check my oil. Ends up its about half a quart short!. Have posterd before about burning out and i was never sure but now i am since i seen today a puff of blue smoke come outta the exhaust. Ive put 2000 kms on the car since i did an oil change (around 1500 miles). Now the thing that gets me is i havent seen ne smoke commin outta the car this year n i check my levels often n didnt have ne loss accept for the last 500 kms. Doesnt half a quart for 1500 miles seem like alot ? . Should i worry about it ? My last oil change i was down about a quart n a half after 6000 kms. Im kinda rambling here just real worried this is real bad!!
i remember looking stuff up on the machsand read somewherethat the 03s do have an issue with burning oil, i guess its common? my 04 has about 58,000 on the car and i dont burn any... i suppose the best advice i can give is to just keep up on the car and check it often?
mine does it from time to time machs have a problem with this for some reason 03s more than 04s. dont ask me why or what the reasoning is just something us machies have to deal with i usually check mine everytime i wash it just to be safe and add as needed between oil changes ill add up to 1/2 a quart usually and i dont hardly ever see any blue smoke from mine so just keep up with it and you should be fine
Mine is an 03, I have never noticed an oil burning issue with mine,(I have never heard of them having issues, but I guess its possible)but I am pretty **** about changing the oil regularly. the thing I have noticed on mine though is that when I change the oil and filter it will take 6.5 quarts to fill it not 6... weird I guess.
the '03? ****, cause my new motor is the same thats in the '03, it came with the black valve covers instead of the aluminum '04 covers (yes i swapped them)
but ****, now im gonna have to put oil in this bitch every 1500?

i brought the car in tday to get a shifter and springs installed. i told the guy about my oil burning problem. he went over and started the car and sure enough a massive cloud of blue smoke came pouring out. he went to work trying to resolve the problem. he was suppose to do a pressure test but checked the pcv valve first. he showed me the amount of oil that was there.. the tube had tonssss of oil in it. and if u looked at the intake it was spilling out. he thinks the valve could be the issue. so he blocked off the intake port and closed off the hose. i did a few high revs until no more smoke came out of the exhaust. he told me to drive the car and check everytime i got on it or started it to see if i was still getting blue smoke . i hope this is the problem!! he did mention that the pcv could pull more oil cause something was wrong internally. but so far i havent seen ne smoke on start ups and hard acceleration.
I seem to remember that there was some type of pcv mod some of the guys were doing to thier Mach's, something about a small canister installedjust after the pcv valve that would catch any blow by oil before it hit the intake. you might want to ask or search at the M1R about the mod.
But if the amount of blow by is excessive I would think there may be an internal issue, wether it would be valve guides, rings or what ever im not sure.
