Default Left the track upset

1st time to track w/ DRs. Ran 13.20 stock over a year ago and now w/ 4.10s and DRs only ran 13.25...so depressed. After bogging while launching 1st 3 runs @ 3k, launched @ 4.5K and had 60' of 1.94, 1.90 and 1.89 w/ 17 psi but seemed like top end suffered w/ gears as my avg. mph was 101...was 105/106 w/ stock gear. Shifting @ 6K b/c it seems the pulling stops earlier w/ gears but maybe I should wind it out more. Anyone w/ tips for this broken hearted man? Thx.

Rygi,
sorry you didn't make you goals, think you can post some slips up, with those MT's i would expect your 60' staying down around 1.8 or less.
How are you clutching, are you just slipping to much? also a guy here had the same setup you do, was cutting 1.7's running 8.0's all day and finally broke 7.7's with a tune.

from watching him and talking with him, i would recommend launching @ 5k-5.5k with a real quick slip, and shift the 1-2 @6800, the 2-3 @6400-6600, the 3-4 @6500 and ride her out.

Appreciate the feedback, homey. Yeah, definately next time I'll launch higher and shift a bit higher than 6K. I was bogging like a sumbitch most of the night. I think I'm just trying to be nice to her, seeing how I just had the tranny rebuilt not to long ago. Hell with it, I'll give her hell next time. I'll post slips if I can find them...was just crumbling most of them up from being disgusted.

A 1.89 is a good 60', and definately should have netted you some better times.

As mentioned above, why were you shifting at 6K though?

Isn't the redline in a 5sp Mach up near 6800 or something? You're giving up a good chunk of your power band up high, and likely shifting into the next gear too low to be pulling as hard as you'd like.

I'd expect that with another 60' below 1.9, and some better/better timed shifting, you'll get into the 12 second range.

(ps...if you were bogging, it's likely you were letting the clutch out too fast or simply dumping it...try a quick slip to initially get rolling, but don't let it out all the way until after you feel the car catch...that way once you've caught traction, you have plenty of throttle to feed the car to maintain your acceleration)

Redline is 6800 but, according to dynos, peak hp is @ 6500 w/ 3.55s and around 6100 w/ 4.10s. I can seriously feel the car pull slower and see the tach needle slow way down @ 6K. As far as letting the clutch out...feathering it more netted me really good bonestock 60' and 1/4 mi. times. This being my 1st time w/ DRs and 4.10s, I didn't think I'd need to do that so I pretty much dumped it but guess I was wrong. It's evidently a learning experience with gears and tires so next time I'll go back to rolling the clutch and shifting a lil higher.

Shift closer to 6,800 and you will be closer to the power-band.

if your MT's hook, which they most definately should there is no need for slipping, you only do that to save the trans/rear/clutch

Granted I'm not making the same power to the wheels as a bolt on mach, but I bogged my car too many times with 4.10's and MT's dumping the clutch anywhere from 3K-4500.....

A slip is still going to be better I believe. Not to mention the abuse you're going to save on the rear end.

that's why i was telling him to slip it earlier, but a 5500 slip would be better than a 4500, and "shouldn't" bog down at all.

BUT, if it hooks too hard w/o a slip, he's going to bog..

which is why we're telling him to slip it out a bit....
