Yes, the shaker does divert enough air into the intake to make a difference. Ford's lead engineer (now the owner of MRT) tested the Mach at the track during development with the idea that if the shaker didn't improve performance it wouldn't be on the car. It did. I think the amount of air coming through my ram air is one of the pieces in the low/mid 12s I'm running. It doesn't look fancy, but it's function has kept me happy. Either one is good though, I'm sure the true cold air will do ya right as well.
